Summer in Épernay is a whole different experience. The days stretch out, terraces come alive, the vines are a vivid green and the town buzzes with festivals and open-air events. It’s the season when the Champagne art of living truly comes into its own: tasting on the terrace, cycling through the vines, dancing at the Soirée Blanche. Welcome to Épernay’s sparkling summer.
Events Not to Be Missed
Champ’Man Triathlon — 13 and 14 June
This triathlon crosses Épernay’s most beautiful landscapes: swimming in the Marne, cycling over the vineyard hills and running through town. Even without competing, it’s a great spectacle and the atmosphere is electric.
Fête de la Musique — 21 June
As elsewhere in France, Épernay celebrates the summer solstice with music. Local artists, bands and street musicians take over the squares and streets of the town centre for a joyful, free evening.
Messmer at Le Millesium — June
The famous hypnotist stops in Épernay. An impressive show that guarantees a memorable evening
Défil’Mania — 11 July
A colourful parade of motorbikes, quads, sidecars and quirky vehicles through Épernay and its vineyards. The atmosphere is festive, family-friendly and wonderfully eccentric.
La Soirée Blanche — Around 14 July
One of the most elegant events of the Épernay summer. The Avenue de Champagne becomes entirely pedestrianised for a grand all-white picnic. Dress in white, bring your hamper, and enjoy Champagne under the stars to the sound of music. A magical evening to experience at least once. The exact 2026 date will be confirmed by the town.
Funfair — July
The Square Raoul-Chandon transforms into a funfair with rides and entertainment for the whole family. A summer classic loved by children.
Voi(x)là l’été! — July and August
This summer festival celebrates the voice in all its forms: concerts, street shows, storytelling and musical readings. Performances take place in various venues across the town, often outdoors.
Route du Champagne en Fête — 1 and 2 August
Champagne’s biggest wine tourism event takes place in the Côte des Bar, about 1.5 hours south of Épernay. For two days, 10 villages open their cellars with tastings, entertainment and local discovery. The event attracts 25,000 to 40,000 visitors. A day trip absolutely worth making.
Year-Round Activities to Enjoy in Summer
Cycling Through the Vineyards
Summer is the ideal season to hop on a bicycle and ride the Champagne Tourist Route. The Côte des Blancs, the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims: each itinerary offers magnificent landscapes and stops at winemakers’ estates. Several bike hire outlets are available in Épernay.
Pressoria and the Cellars
When the temperature rises, the cellars and their constant 10°C become a welcome refuge. Pressoria, the sensory interpretation centre in Aÿ-Champagne, offers an immersive and refreshing experience. Remember to book cellar visits in advance during summer — it’s peak season.
La Cave aux Coquillages
This underground visit in Fleury-la-Rivière is ideal on hot days. Children love discovering the 45-million-year-old marine fossils in a cool, mysterious atmosphere.
Picnic on Mont Bernon
Summer evenings are perfect for a picnic at the top of Mont Bernon. Bring a bottle of Champagne, a board of Chaource cheese and rillettes, and enjoy the sunset over the valley. A simple yet unforgettable moment.
